Martyn is a consultant trainer providing tax training for accountants, lawyers and other professionals.
Martyn says "you are never too old to learn a new skill. We must also appreciate that many of our skills are transferable and can enable us to adapt to new roles and challenges in life and in business."
Martyn qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and became an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in 1983.
For ten years Martyn worked for The Financial Training Company Ltd lecturing in taxation and other accounting subjects to students preparing for their accountancy and taxation examinations, as well as on CPE and CPD courses.
On his return to professional practice in January 1997 Martyn joined Horwath Clark Whitehill LLP, and became a partner in October 1998. In 2000 he moved to MacIntyre Hudson LLP and now works as a consultant. His main area of interest is tax planning for the family business, in particular tax efficient remuneration, exit planning and restructuring. He has also been involved in advising overseas investors on the taxation implications of setting up a business in the UK, and UK companies setting up abroad.
Martyn has had articles published in the Tax Faculty TaxLine Technical Review and in "Taxation" magazine. His work for MAS has also involved the production of tax training videos for Legal Network Television Ltd.
Playing and watching sport and generally keeping fit. "Once a year I like to climb a mountain that I haven't climbed before with a few other dads and their sons. A couple of years ago the dads completed the 3 Peaks Challenge of Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Snowdon in just under 23 hours. We are hoping to Climb Mont Blanc with the sons next year. When feeling less active I enjoy cooking and a good bottle of wine.
| OPINION: | You are never too old to learn a new skill - those that do will be able to adapt to the new challenges ahead. |
| LIKE IT: | Being out of doors - either walking, running or playing sport. |
| LOATHE IT: | Not a lot, but I don't have a great deal of time for those who don't put the effort in. |
